Ever wonder what happens when you get a DUI in Indiana? Well, getting a cab ride home could save you a lot in the long run!

When someone drives under the influence, there is always the risk of causing serious injury or killing innocent people. Drunk driving is extremely dangerous and the laws are meant to deter people from getting behind the wheel after they have had too much to drink. But what happens when you get a DUI? What type of punishment will you receive if you get a DUI, and how can you expect it to affect you financially?

The answer to that question varies, but if you get a DUI, you will likely have to participate in an alcohol abuse program, pay fines, possibly have your license suspended/revoked, or get points added to your driving record. And after all that, your auto insurance company will likely increase your monthly premium.

Depending on the situation, a misdemeanor charge usually comes with the first DUI. If you have a prior DUI conviction or a passenger under the age of 18 in the vehicle, you will likely face a Class D felony charge and possibly some time in jail.

On top of all this, you will then be faced with court costs and the issue of whether you need to hire an attorney. You could represent yourself, but it would be best to hire an attorney. An attorney may cost a bit of money, but it will be worth the extra cost to have an advocate on your side that knows the law and can help you through an unfamiliar situation.

With the economy the way it is and budgets tight, DUI laws likely won’t get lenient any time soon. Drunk driving is totally irresponsible. So, with the holidays approaching, we suggest calling a cab if you have had a little too much to drink. There’s too much to lose driving drunk! Have fun, be safe, and enjoy the holidays!

Kevin and Caroline Peterson of Fall Creek Township, Indiana have a very nice home in the country and it was peaceful until the Town of Fishers, Indiana made the decision to build a park next door to them. Now you would think a park would be nice to have next door. But not a park built by Fishers. Not Cyntheanne Park.

You see Fishers does not want a park but rather a massive sports complex complete with a stadium and lights that light up the night and all the homes in the area. Hundreds of parking spaces, the list goes on and on. So the Peterson’s and their neighbors went before the Town Council. Not once but three times.

To which Fishers Town Council et al said “Fishers did not have to reply to the Peterson’s complaint nor do anything to redress their grievances because they (Fishers) were not subject to due process, civil rights, or equal treatment under the law provisions of the U.S. Constitution.”

So the Peterson’s took the matter to Federal Court. The town needless to say has been claiming this does not belong in Federal Court, it belongs in state courts, where the local politics start to play a role and towns are never wrong. Well, right now its still in the Federal System. Its rather interesting in questioning, the Township Trustee stated that the Town Council President threatened the removal of Fire Protection and another elected Town Council member tried to bride him if he played along. Is this Indiana or Chicago? The late Mayor Daley and Boss Tweed of NYC would be very proud of this town council.

So while the Judge is reviewing the Fishers claim that this does not belong in a Federal Court the Town is moving ahead with a new plan, exempt themselves form the law. The Unified Development Ordinance” (UDO) is the Fishers code on new developments.

If the matter remains in Federal Court the Town will move into its usual legal mode, flood the system with filling, depositions, etc and drive the Peterson’s legal bill into piles so high they will reach the moon. After all its only taxpayer money on the town side.

What they (Fishers) will be proposing and will probably approve is the “Exemption” of Fishers Town Council and Government from the UDO requirements and adherence thereto. In other words, its “do as I say, not as I do;” or the ever popular, “We’re above the law and therefore not subject to it.” The law is for you peasants. They are going to vote on this Tuesday August 12 and anyone willing to take a bet it passes. As usual the Town Council is unified and all decisions are made in advance.

So here we have a local government that exempts itself from its own laws, and claims that its citizens are not protected by the Constitution of the United States of America.

It’s time to remove the Town form of government and replace it with a City and a more responsible form of government. It’s time to remove the gang of seven from office.

Joe Weingarten, Democratic Party candidate for State House District 29, and Greg Purvis, a former candidate for Fishers Town Council, have announced a petition drive to change Fishers from a town into a city.

Thanks to the developer friendly town council, the town of Fishers has become the third fastest growing town, growing twice as fast as Indianapolis since the year 2000. Since that time, the town’s population has exploded 69% to a population of 66,080.

The formation into a city would provide for a Mayor and city council districts that would be directly elected by their districts, as opposed to the current form where town council members are elected “at-large” despite being in districts. Purvis, who campaigned on the issue of becoming a city in 2007, said that “a community the size of Fishers deserves a Mayor that will be accountable to voters. The current town chief is a town manager hired by and hand picked by the town council”. House District 29 includes approximately half of the Town of Fishers and Weingarten believes voter turnout is indicative of the way the town council districts are elected. “It’s a possibility that one of the reasons for the very low turnout in Fishers elections is for the lack of representative districts. The formation of a city will allow voters to directly vote for a Mayor, and choose their own city’s leader”.

Approximately 1,500 Fishers residents must sign a petition in order for the question of becoming a city is placed on an election ballot. This number is based on 10% of Fishers’ registered voters who cast their vote in the last election for secretary of state. Organizers feel confident that this can be easily accomplished.

Folks Fishers is planning to double in size by 2025, and I want to know can you handle it? Can you handle the traffic, the pollution, crime, and schools that can’t be built fast enough, kids are already in trailers.

I know you don’t believe me, but it’s in their own documents.

In their development documents they plan on all the population including all areas not yet annexed “unincorporated areas” that will provide a population as follows:

Town of Fishers Incorporated and Unincorporated Areas:

Total Population as of July 1, 2007: 79,841
2010 Estimated Population: 90,852
2015 Estimated Population: 104,335
2020 Estimated Population: 114,098
2025 Estimated Population: 120,255

Does this mean Fishers is going to fill up all the land south of Noblesville until they stop at the county line. Looks like it. They are planning to do just that.

So if you double the population, you have to double the school system, you have to double the traffic problems, you have to double the sewer plant, etc and based on Fishers Town government, you have to at least triple its size. Get ready for more taxes. Want to see how much your area is going to grow go to http://www.fishers.in.us/egov/docs/1194383590_581390.pdf

Now I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t want to see the area double in population and everything that, that brings.

Its time to slow down the Fishers Town Council and make them responsible for their actions instead of letting them just ignore everyone to allow for unchecked growth. To allow them to do as they please and ignore the citizens of the area. It also says by 2027 no more land will be left. Watch them then grow upwards with more multi-story buildings after all they already approved two 25-story monsters.

Funny they still want you to believe this is a small town, just so they can keep their power. I wonder in 2025 will they still want to be called a small town of 120,000 people? Would that make them the largest town in the USA? Or would they be a town of only 100,000 which is reduced by the 20,000 they project for the Geist area? When Geist wins it ‘s battle to be free it would bring them down a bit in size. Which bring me to another point; they claim that the Geist area does not have enough area to grow, so how did they figure it would go from 5,000 to 20,000? Fisher’s magic at work once more.
